List of Disney Movies

“I make movies to amuse and then academics tell me the meaning of them” used to say Walter Elias Disney or just “Walt Disney” as we know him, he was a pioneer in the production of animated films, in this way he gave life to many different characters who used to bring not only entertainment for the entire family, but also important messages that can easily absorbed by children.

Walt Disney was born on December 5th on 1901, on the city of Chicago, when he was five years old his family moved out to a farm where he began to draw as a hobby, years later, in Kansas he officially begins art studies.

During his childhood, his imagination was nourished by fairy tales written by Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm brothers, Walt’s grandmother used to read them for him while he was sat on her knees. But the history of the child which never grows was the one that really impressed him. Walt and Roy spent until the last cent of their savings to buy the tickets for the function on the theater of “Peter Pan” and thus he was rewarded with cherished memories.

Walt Disney began working with advertising movies and for that he made his own animated short films‎, but it was in the decade of the thirties that he officially started working with the production of animated feature films, after founding Walt Disney Productions.

Walt used to be the kind of person who dedicates 100% of his energy to create something special; this is how he produces this gift for the world known as “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”, this movie required a lot of effort from the team of designers and cartoonists since Walt wanted this movie to be perfect. “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs” was one of the first films made by Disney on the early beginnings, then came “Pinocchio” and “Fantasy”, both of them were produced on 1940; after them were released “Dumbo” on 1941 and “Bambi” on 1942.

When Second World War ended, Disney started the production of different kinds of movies, besides the animated films which he kept producing; he decided to produce documentaries related to nature and at the beginning of the decade of fifties he decided to create movies with real actors on the field of family cinema like “The Treasure Island” in 1950, “Robin Hood” in 1951 and “Mary Poppins” which was released on 1964 and became very famous among the smallest of the family.

Difficult times arose for Disney family, so Walt decided to produce two movies less ambitious, in order to save some budget. The first one was “The Reluctant Dragon” produced on 1941 which combined real action with animated characters, the second one was “Dumbo” produced on the same year.

From 1943 Disney began the production of movies which combined real characters and stages with animated resources. But the productions released on the decade of fifties made the real difference, “Cinderella” which was released on 1950 and “Alice in wonderland” released on 1951 became very famous productions, for Cinderella Disney employed classical pieces of music composed by renowned masters, and he didn’t rest until he found the most proper actress to recreate the scenes and also sing the songs that are so cherished by everyone this days.

And how can we forget “Lady and the Tramp” which was the very first film of Disney in cinemascope, which was produced after “Cinderella”, “Alice in wonderland” and “Peter Pan”, movies of huge success and much acclaimed by the public in general. In the case of “Alice in wonderland” and “Peter Pan”, the original story was dulcified, peculiarity that was criticized in a negative way by the audience. That extra amount of sugar became a characteristic feature of Disney movies. The last movie on which Walt was involved as a Director from the beginning to the end of it was “The Jungle Book” produced on 1966, and the last one produced by him was “Sleeping Beauty” on 1959. In the case of the “The Jungle Book” unfortunately Walt didn’t get to see the adventures of Mogly and his friends on the big screen, since he died of lung cancer on December of 1966.

“Sleeping Beauty” was the last movie made with characters and stages entirely manually drawn, thus it pointed the end of another age for Disney Studios, the process of manual drawing on the production of Disney films which used to very expensive was completely replaced on the production of “101 Dalmatians” by other less expensive but also less creative known as Xeroxed.

In further years, the company produced movies of a diversity of contents, “Mary Poppins” released on 1964 and “The Jungle Book” released on 1967 had a huge success on the decade of sixties.

Movies like “The Aristocrats” released on 1970 and “Robin of the Woods” released on 1973 had a clear lack of imagination and originality. It was with “The Rescuers” released on 1977 that Disney Studios recovered the prestige and supremacy which were characteristic on them on the animated films sector.

These days, although decades have passed after Walt’s depart, the company he founded keeps growing and is one of the most important producer of movies and a variety of entertainment for public of different ages. Disney movies have been seen by generations and they are still an important referent of animation. Although in the decade of thirties a myth related to Disney films came up, some people started the rumor that these films weren’t just simple movies for kids, but they had a dark side too. Walt became the target of an accusation, according to it Disney movies promoted negative stereotypes against Native Americans, Semitic people and Jewish people among others. Many negative appreciations emerged against Disney movies, but without solid arguments.

Disney has been providing for decades lots of movies for the entertainment of the entire family, let’s hope to keep enjoying these movies for many years more.
